A Bit About Me
Starting out in the beauty industry as an Esthetician, I naturally became interested in the effects that nutrition has on our bodies, inside and out. Coincidentally, I started having my own health issues which propelled me into health and wellness.
After studying at the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition, I wanted to dive deeper and learn more about food and cooking and studied at The School of Natural Cookery in Boulder, Colorado. My experience there taught me how to cook without recipes, relying solely on technique and intuition. Needless to say, I was hooked!
I started this blog as a creative outlet and with no background in computers, photography, design or marketing, I have learned so many new skills and hope to continue learning and improving everyday. Creating recipes and sharing delicious healthy foods has become one of the simplest ways for me to connect with people, with nature, and with myself.
Why Sliced Ginger?
What can I say, I love ginger! Being half Japanese ginger was a staple in our house and I always found it to be a unique flavour. A strong ginger tea is my cure for almost anything and lemon ginger combo is one of my all time favourite flavours (matcha, cherry blossom and everything dark chocolate are also top of my list!)
The Recipes
The recipes you will find here are what I personally love to make and eat. Over the years I’ve tried many different diet types but what I’ve found to be the best for myself is following a mostly plant based, gluten free and low sugar diet. While I enjoy cooking savory meals (and do so everyday), I love being able to make desserts with wholesome ingredients that taste just as good (or even better!) than conventional desserts. Here you will find my favorite dessert and snack recipes that are full of nutrient dense ingredients, with of course, some exceptions.
The Lollipops
The lollipops were a pandemic creation that started when our long awaited trip to Japan was cancelled. I wanted to make something that reminded me of the last time I was there, and I remembered a beautiful traditional handmade candy shop in Kyoto. The candies were tiny, intricate and looked like shiny jewels. Since I had no idea how to make traditional candies I thought I would start with something basic like a lollipop. It was cherry blossom season, and after three weeks of making lollipops EVERYDAY, I finally made a lollipop I absolutely loved – the cherry blossom lollipop. I posted it and it became my most popular recipe. During the pandemic I came up with a few more flavors and opened an Etsy shop. Since then I’ve made lollipops for many weddings, parties and corporate events. Some clients include Yves Saint Laurent and Kate Spade. I love being able to use my hands to make things for others and I hope to create more delicious treats that may one day make their way to you!
Come by and say hi and find me on Instagram. I look forward to hearing from you!
