These homemade peppermint patties are a simpler and less sweet treat than store bought ones. The filling is made with shredded coconut and coconut condensed milk creating a soft and chewy center. Ready in under 30 minutes, they’re quick, refreshing and perfect for snacking or serving during the holiday season!

The Ingredients
- Shredded coconut. This makes up the filing. It gives a chewy texture without any coconut flavor since the peppermint extracts covers it up. Use unsweetened shredded coconut.
- Condensed coconut milk. This sweetens and binds the shredded coconut together. It’s available in many health food stores and online. I use Nature’s Charm Sweetened Condensed Coconut Milk.
- Peppermint extract. Gives the refreshing and cool flavor to the filling. Add more or less depending on preference. Pure peppermint oil can be used instead of extract, my favorite brand is from LorAnn (not sponsored).
- Dark chocolate. Use your favorite brand of dark chocolate. I tend to stay away from chocolate chips since they usually have added ingredients.
How To Make The Patties
These peppermint patties could not be any easier to make! All you need is 4 ingredients, 30 minutes without any special equipment required. Here are the basic steps with a detailed version in the recipe card:
- Mix the shredded coconut with the condensed milk.
- Add the peppermint extract to taste.
- Form into patties and place into the freezer.
- Melt the chocolate.
- Dip the patties into the chocolate and put in the fridge to set.
- Drizzle with extra chocolate and top with flakey sea salt.

For me, it’s not the holidays without chocolate mint! And although these are not like traditional peppermint patties, they are SO delicious. Filled with a chewy peppermint filing and dipped in rich dark chocolate, they tick off that holiday chocolate mint craving without being overly sweet or too indulgent. I hope that you get to try this recipe and enjoy it this holiday season!

Easy Vegan Peppermint Patties
Ingredients
- 1 cup shredded unsweetened coconut
- 6 tablespoons condensed coconut milk, see notes
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract, or to taste, see notes
- 1 1/4 cups chopped dark chocolate (200 grams)
- flakey sea salt, optional to garnish
Instructions
- In a small bowl mix the shredded coconut with the condensed coconut milk.
- Mix in the peppermint extract. Taste and add more if desired.
- Take about 1 tablespoon of the mixture and use your hands to squeeze it into a ball and flatten into a disc. The mixture will be quite sticky.
- Place the patties on a lined baking tray. Place into the freezer.
- In the meantime melt the chocolate. To do so place the chopped chocolate into a medium sized bowl. Fill a small pot with 3 inches of water. Bring the water to a simmer. Place the bowl of chocolate on top of the pot making sure that the water doesn't touch the bottom of the bowl (double boiler method). Stir the chocolate occasionally until melted, about 7-10 minutes. Alternatively you can melt the chocolate in the microwave, stirring at 30 second intervals until melted.
- Remove the patties from the freezer, dip them into the melted chocolate and place them back on to the tray. Once all of them are dipped place them in the fridge to set, about 15 minutes. Or if you want them to set faster place them in the freezer for a few minutes. If you like you can drizzle extra chocolate over top of them after they're set. Sprinkle with a bit of flakey sea salt.
- Store them in a sealed container in the fridge for up to 1 week. Enjoy!
